The
first page is a major challenge to some people and to others it comes quite
easily. Hope these tips help. We were all there at one time or
another!!
Each
page doesn’t have to be perfect or elaborate.
Keep them simple and build up your confidence. You can always go back and add a few little items once you
have developed your skills.
Don’t
buy too many supplies until you get started. Too many supplies will
overwhelm you.
A suggestion for those of you teaching a beginning class that I found
really helpful - Bring items from your own personal supplies that you no longer
use or like. For example, I
do not like some of the handmade or corrugated papers.
I don’t think the mounting squares stick well.
I gave my supply of this paper to the ladies in my class because, even
though I didn’t like it, they may find a perfectly good use for it.
Or, on the other hand, it will save them from making the same purchase I
did of supplies that I couldn’t get to work for me or that I didn’t like.
Step-by-Step Guide for Making Your First
Page
Decide
which project you would like to start. Organize your pictures, papers, and
embellishments.
Pick
out the best photos and get rid of all the blurry ones!
It’s
good to have 3-5 pictures on a page. Odd number of pictures seems to work
the best. Overlapping photos is ok and actually looks interesting.
See
if you have one GREAT photo that will serve as the focal point of your page.
Place the photos on the page and move them around before taping them
down. Make them visually appealing to you.
One of the best suggestions I recently received from a first-time
scrapbooker (my friend Sandy in Loveland, Colorado) was that since she was
intimidated by creating a 12x12-page, she simply started with a smaller album
and made a fun little book. Creating her first page gave her the self-confidence she
needed to tackle the larger page! Whatever
works for you!
Creating your first album certainly shouldn’t be stressful for you.
In the class I recently taught, we helped one of the ladies create her first
page. We were her cheerleaders and
by the end of the class period, she had created her first beautiful scrapbook
page (nearly) on her own! She was
thrilled and it helped to build her self-confidence.
Her second page will be much easier.
After you’ve taken a class, make plans to get together with the same
ladies and have a scrapping night. Share
your pages and ideas. That is what
scrapbooking is all about!

between the impossible and
- the
possible lies in a person's determination.
