Some fun "remedies" to add to your scrapbooks.

To cure a backache - 1) Let a 7th child walk seven times up and down your back, 2) Lie down and roll toward the first dove you hear cooing in the Spring, your backache will be cured, 3) Boil pine tree roots and pain ants in clean cloth and place on the sore back, 4) Rub the sufferer's back against a tree where a hog has rubbed itself.

To cure chicken pox, sit in the henhouse for an hour.

Chills and Fever - Pull down the cover as if going to bed, then get under the bed. The chills and fever will be fooled and leave you alone.

The ingredients of health and long life are great temperance, open air,

easy labor, little care.

- Sir Philip Sidney

Cold Cure
- Mix a tablespoon of barley in a wineglass of cold water, pour into a saucepan with 1 1/4 cups of white wine, sweeten with honey, and add a few cloves.  Stir over the heat for six minutes. Drink hot before retiring to bed. This was what Queen Victoria and her ladies drank when afflicted by a cold.

Fainting, Hysterics - Loosen the garments, bathe the temples with water or eau de Cologne, get fresh air, avoid bustles, and excessive sympathy.

Sore Throat - Take off your right sock at night and while it's warm, tie it around your neck. Let it remain there all night.

Drink Allspice Tea for
